HARMONICS VS THE COMPETITION – THE TABER TEST

Wear amounts after 2,000 cycles

After 2,000 cycles, clearly Harmonics flooring withstands wear and tear better than the competition.

The taber test is a destructive test where an object is rotated under sandpaper to measure a material’s resistance to wear and foot traffic. As you can see, after 2,000 cycles, the competitor’s product is no match for Harmonics laminate flooring.

GOOD FOR YOUR FAMILY &
THE ENVIRONMENT

Each Harmonics floor is made with pride in the U.S.A., by a leading American manufacturer. Because Harmonics is domestically manufactured, every Harmonics floor has been produced in accordance with health considerations safeguarded by U.S. and state regulations. With Harmonics, families have the peace of mind that they are living on a floor that qualifies as an EPP (Environmentally Preferred Product) in almost all green rating systems. Harmonics flooring is also made with more than 70% pre-consumer recycled materials.

Pre-Installation Questions

  • How many cartons of flooring will I need for my installation?

Measure the length by width of your room, add 5% for cutting waste and divide by the square footage in each box. Round this number up to the nearest carton. The quantities for each carton can be found on the web page for each color.

Example for a 12 by 15 foot room being installed with Golden Aspen:
12×15=180, adding 5% (180×0.05=9) equals 189 feet needed. Divide that by 22.09 feet/carton, equals 8.6 cartons. Round that up to purchase 9 cartons.

Note: If you have detailed floor or a fancy pattern like a 45 degree run, add 10% instead of 5%

  • How much flooring should I buy?

Available Harmonics® colors can change from season to season, so be sure to purchase enough flooring to finish out your installation and enough extra to perform any possible future repairs or additions (we recommend purchasing an extra 10-15%).

To purchase products previously sold in Costco warehouses, please call 1-888-459-9220.

  • What is laminate flooring?

Harmonics® is a laminate floor. The base of a Harmonics® floor is a watertight, glued HDF board (High Density Fibre Board). This is covered with a design layer and a transparent overlay against wear and tear. Underneath, a barrier layer stops rising damp and prevents the boards from deforming. The design layer is a photo of wood or tiles that is printed on paper. This paper is submerged in melamine resin. This is covered with a very strong and transparent protective layer. The melamine layers are pressed on the HDF board in a press under high pressure and temperature. In addition, a wood or tile structure is also pressed into the top layer. For example, the oak designs have a wood texture that coincides exactly with the wood pattern. The highly refined printing technique means that you can hardly tell the difference between the photo and real wood. So you can have a “wooden floor” in your home without sacrificing valuable trees. In addition, you don’t have to worry about the disadvantages of a wooden floor. They are easy and fast to install (yourself) and easy to maintain.

  • What if I have allergies?

Thanks to the closed surface structure of Harmonics® laminate floors and the closed joints between the boards, there’s nowhere for dust to creep. Moreover, the perfect laying and finishing of your Harmonics® floor means it’s easy to clean. Dust mites and other allergy-causing organisms cannot survive on clean laminate floors. This will help you protect your home from allergens. This is extremely important for people suffering from asthma or dust allergies. To maintain good hygiene it is essential that you always use a Harmonics® maintenance product for cleaning. These do not contain any wax or varnish which can attract dust. With the Harmonics® microfiber tissues (Harmonics® maintenance kit) you can easily remove all dust.

  • Where can I buy Harmonics® flooring?

Harmonics® floors are sold exclusively through Costco.

  • I have kids, a dog and a lot of traffic, how durable are Harmonics® floors?

Our floors carry the North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) certification for performance standards. To learn more, visit NALFA. Harmonics® flooring also has a rating of AC-3 and AC-4. They have been tested to pass general commercial foot traffic conditions and still hold up. For you, this means our products are abrasion resistant, impact resistant, stain resistant, resistant to household chemicals and even resistant to cigarette burns.

  • Where can I get molding and other accessories?

To completely service Costco Members, we have set up the toll free customer service number at 1-888-459-9220 for molding and other accessory purchases. Only Harmonics® moldings are guaranteed to coordinate with your Harmonics® floor. Beware of non-Harmonics® moldings, their expansion clearances have not been tested and may violate your warranty. We also offer a limited selection of short length molding to economically finish your installation, ask a support representative at the customer service number about availability. 1-888-459-9220.

Installation Questions

  • Why and how do I use the spacers?

Spacers are used to maintain your expansion gap and are to be removed after installation. The spacers in the installation kit are designed to be used in pairs. They are adjustable to provide the minimum 5/16″–3/8″ expansion space.

  • Do I need the moisture barrier for all installations?

Yes, Harmonics® requires the use of a moisture barrier on both concrete and wood subfloors. Even wood subfloors can have moisture enter from crawl spaces and basements. Moisture barriers also reduce lateral friction caused by heavy furniture, extra-large installations and rough subfloors.

  • How do I install Harmonics® on stairs?

For a detailed, but easy “How To” guide to installing stairs, contact Harmonics® Customer Service a 1-888-459-9220. Stair nose moldings are also available through this number.

  • Do I run the moisture barrier up 1" on all four walls?

Yes for concrete subfloors. This prevents damage to the floor from floods or water damage in other rooms. For wooden subfloors, trim the plastic 1 inch from the walls.

  • How do I fasten the molding in place?

Nail or glue the track to the subfloor using polyurethane contactor’s adhesive such as Liquid Nails. Skirting ® Quarter Round are nailed directly to the walls. Never nail or glue molding directly to Harmonics® flooring.

  • How do you cover gapping around piping, door jambs, or other areas that are exposed?

Use flexible acrylic caulking available from Harmonics® Customer Service 1-888-459-9220.

  • Should I remove the tongue prior to placing molding against planks, or planks against walls?

Yes, removing the protruding “tongue” or lower “lip” gives you the full 5/16″–3/8″ expansion space under the transition moldings and wall skirting.

  • Do I need to use the Harmonics® Moisture Barrier sheeting under my flooring even if it has a pad on it?

Yes, the pad is to cushion the floor, reduce noise and mitigate small imperfections in the subfloor surface. It does not prevent subfloor moisture from entering the plank joints. Even old concrete floors, basements and crawl-spaces can have high moisture levels capable of swelling wood flooring. The Harmonics® Moisture Barrier is high quality and meets the Harmonics® flooring warranty requirements. It is required for all installations. Do not use an additional foam underlayment as a moisture barrier. To order the Harmonics® Installation Kit or for installation assistance, please call 1-888-459-9220.

Avoiding Common Mistakes

  • Keep a full 5/16" - 3/8" expansion space everywhere in your installation:

This includes through all doorways, between rooms and halls and around door jambs, cabinets, and under the moldings. Floating floors must have this space in order to properly expand & contract from room to room and season to season.

  • Use a proper saw blade:

Use a fine-tooth carbide blade. On a circular table saw a minimum of 40-60 teeth is recommended, less teeth may result in rough cuts. Clean cuts depend on the type of saw used. For a fine-toothed handsaw or crosscut saw (pattern side up), or a jig saw (pattern side down), or a table saw (pattern side up), or a circular saw (pattern side down).

  • Put an expansion space—covered by molding—between rooms, hallways and separated areas:
  • Put felt pads under all furniture & use mats at doors:

Many chairs, tables and appliances have feet that can cause damage to wood floors. Harmonics®offers self-adhesive felt pads, available from Customer Service 1-888-459-9220. We also recommend placing walk-off mats inside door entrances.

  • Clean up spills quickly:

Clean up spills immediately, and use mats inside and outside of entries to keep your floor clean and dry.

  • Regular maintenance prevents problems:

The best preventive maintenance is to regularly sweep a wood and laminate floor. In some active households, this could mean daily. The accumulation of dirt and grit can wear the finish on the hardiest of laminate floors. Sand and rocks under foot and furniture can scratch any floor.

  • Use water or laminate floor cleaner and use it sparingly from a spray bottle to maintain your Harmonics® floor:

Many cleaners have detergents that are harmful to laminate and wood floors. Harmonics® planks are engineered to require little more than sweeping and a light mopping. For soiled floor maintenance, contact Harmonics® Customer Service at 1-888-459-9220 for a warranted maintenance kit and other accessories.
